EVENING MEETING: Open to the Public Thoreau and the Language of Trees

April 9, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Richard Higgins explores Henry David Thoreau’s deep connections to trees through Thoreau’s words, photos of historic Concord trees and his own striking photographs of trees today. His talk shows how trees inspired Thoreau’s creativity as a writer, work as a naturalist, philosophical thought, and his spiritual life. Trees were a central thread through Thoreau’s being-heart, mind and soul.

The author of Thoreau and the Language of Trees (University of California Press 2017) Richard Higgins is a writer, lecturer and photographer. He is a former Boston Globe staff writer and co-author or editor of several books. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Atlantic Monthly, Christian Century and Smithsonian.
